A Much Needed Conversation

So far EIE has been an amazing experience and its so much fun, blah blah blah, but tonight for our evening programming we had a conversation that should be had everywhere. We talked about sexualization in the media and sexual harassment. We touch on the key points like the fact that sex does in fact sell, but what is it doing to our society? What is sexual harassment? What can we assume someone is ok with? How can we avoid sexual harassment? These are all some questions we answered tonight.
Advertisements with half naked people are seen all around the world today and we don't even bat an eye, but what is it doing to our society? The majority of sexual ads have women in them, this can often give young girls a false image of who they should be and what they should look like. It is important to talk about this because everyone needs to know that they need to be who they are comfortable being, not who society is telling them to be. We also discussed sexual harassment and how to avoid it. There is literally one simple answer; Communication. Communication is key. It may be awkward to ask someone "Hey, can I do this to you?" but it is seriously the only way to be sure both/all parties are comfortable with what is about to happen. This is a very short summary of our conversation tonight but I touched on some of the most important parts. These are conversations that everyone should have to make sure everyone is comfortable with themselves, as well as what they are doing.
