Finding hate even in the most loving community.

I recently read an article that shows that there are truly anti-Israel people in every community. Obviously some have a larger amount than others, but they are still everywhere. A non profit organization "A Wider Bridge" was created to build a bigger connection between U.S. and Israeli LGBTQ Jews. A Wider Bridge was supposed to host a reception, with members of the Israeli LGBTQ group Jerusalem's Open House, after the Creating Change Conference in Chicago. About a week before this event, the reception was canceled due to "Security concerns" though there was no actual evidence of this. There was however one blog post by an anti-Israel person slamming their presence as "Pink Washing," or trying tho improve Israels image through LGBTQ progression.

This article shows how real anti-Israel feelings truly are within every group of people. It is true that Israel has done things that deserve the be asked about, but that doesn't mean groups that are meant to promote basic human rights should be punished for things Israel has done. Israel has done many things out of defense towards the terrorists in the Gaza Strip, but they have also done many things that effect many civilians. Israels image is often seen as "Defensive" by most of the Jewish community, but outside of the normal Jewish community Israels image is often tainted by other things they have done. This still does not mean that Jerusalem's Open House and A Wider Bridge should be removed from certain events in the Creating Change Conference. The reason for the cancellation of their reception is completely invalid and frankly insulting to the Jewish LGBTQ community.

  1. I really like your perspective on this issue. I never thought about that fact that a lot of communities do treat Israelis in a similar way compared to how the LGBTQ community did. I personally thought that it was ironic how a community of minorities chose to exclude another community of minorities. Also, I thought it was very big of the Israelis to not let this exclusion affect there cause by hosting the reception anyways, but in a different location. Again, thanks for opening up a new perspective in my eyes on how Israelis are treated with disrespect in a lot of communities.
